How To Help

Disaster Aid UK & Ireland is a charitable organisation which is almost totally dependent on private donations.  We pride ourselves on our low overheads and virtually all our work, both in the UK and overseas, is undertaken by volunteers.

Helping us to raise funds 
You are welcome to join us at one of our general meetings wherever you might reside, as they are conducted by Zoom, and we have members from around the UK. Just contact us for the login details & date.

These, typically, take place every two months and the main focus of business is concerned with various fund raising and promotional activities.  These events range from balls and dinners, sponsored walks, golf tournaments, fashion shows, various music benefits to numerous street collections.  New ideas are always welcome and it is a good way of gaining experience of how to raise funds.

If you have plans for a significant personal challenge and are looking for a worthy cause, then please look no further!  In the past our supporters have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and organised sponsored swims and cycle rides for us.

If you have a gift, a service or an experience to offer, these would be most welcome for the various raffles and auctions we run at our events.

Providing corporate sponsorship

We welcome contact from any companies willing to provide sponsorship for our activities.  In return, we can provide exposure for the company concerned through various options:

• • The website

• • During a specific fund raising campaign

• During a specific event ( ie charity ball, sponsored hike)

Schools, clubs etc also have the option to sponsor a tent  or water filtration system.

Helping us to promote our mission

We have a full programme of presentations, demonstrations and exhibitions suitable for Rotary clubs, professional organisations, schools etc. We are very interested in both extending our regional cover and increasing our profile with local and national businesses and also younger people by working with schools, colleges and youth groups.

The more people we have on the ground, the more we can do !  We are therefore interested in hearing from anyone who in is interested in becoming an Ambassador for us.   We provide a day of training for new Ambassadors and also an experienced ambassador to co-present during the first one or two events.

Helping us develop 

Disaster Aid International was established in 2010 and, together with our international partners in Australia, Brazil, India, Malaysia, Uruguay, and USA, we are continually examining and refining our operations to improve them. Our management team comprises both active and retired professional people acting as volunteers who are all dedicated to providing disaster relief. We are therefore very interested in welcoming volunteers who have new ideas and skills to offer. All are welcome to attend our general meetings which take place every two months.

For those with limited time to offer, there are many ” bite sized ” areas of work that we would like to develop for those with the interest and skills (for instance marketing/social media,  press relations, graphic and web design, legal, curriculum development).

Becoming a volunteer aid worker 

The deployment of aid into an area affected by a disaster is undertaken by a Disaster Aid Response Team (DART). This is typically made up of an experienced aid worker and two or three DART volunteers. Such volunteers will already have been assessed on one of our hands-on, residential intensive training courses and have made the commitment to provide two weeks of their time each year in the event of  a deployment.  Training of new DART volunteers is an on-going process and we usually run at least one course each year in one, or more, of our partners countries.  Get further  information about our deployments and becoming a DART member.
