We are pleased that we have been able to help the newest member of the Disaster Aid family; Disaster Aid Thailand, following severe flooding there.
Monsoon weather in late September and October brought very heavy rains, resulting in flooding in over twenty-five, mainly rural, provinces in Thailand. This has been exacerbated by continuing rainfall throughout November and overflowing rivers such as the Chaopaya after dams were overwhelmed and were forced to release water downstream. Even in Bangkok, people living near the river have been advised to move to higher ground.
We have sent funds to Disaster Aid Thailand and they plan to distribute rice, dry foods, medicines and other essential items to communities in Ubon Ratchathani, Ayutthaya and Singburi provinces.
If not exactly a baptism of fire, a testing start for our newest members, who bring a wealth of Rotary experience and we wish them well.
