A RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SINCEREST GRATITUDE OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO DISASTER AID INTERNATIONAL FOR DONATING FAMILY SURVIVAL PACKS FOR THE FLOOD VICTIMS OF CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY BROUGHT ABOUT BY TYPHOON SENDONG

 

WHEREAS, Typhoon Sendong entered the country late night of December 16, 2011 and hit Cagayan de Oro during the wee hours of December 17, 2011;

 

WHEREAS, as a result of Sendong, there are a reported 1,249 dead, 4,594 injured and they have already lost count as to the number of persons still missing;

 

WHEREAS, 7,317 houses in Cagayan de Oro City were totally destroyed and 12,635 houses were partially damaged;

 

WHEREAS, P775,000,000 worth of roads, bridges and other structures were damage with this figure projected to increase as the City is properly surveyed once all the confusion and chaos subsides;

 

WHEREAS, the people affected are now in evacuation centers in dire need of food, water clothing and other basic necessities;

 

WHEREAS, numerous Non-Government Organizations, both domestic and international came to the aid of the people of Cagayan de Oro, one of which is Disaster Aid International;

 

WHEREAS, Disaster Aid International in an organization aimed at providing shelter, clean water, everyday supplies, or a first aid station to survivors of disasters and puts people on the road to recovery from the unpredictable situation they find themselves in at the earliest possible opportunity;

 

WHEREAS, when tragedy struck Cagayan de Oro, Disaster Aid International was one of the first to arrive with their Disaster Aid Response Teams (DART) composed of highly trained and experienced professionals and volunteers;

 

WHEREAS, the DART conducted a surveillance of the area hit by Sendong and gathered intelligence which took into consideration numerous factors including the social, legal, economic, political, technological aspects of the locale and then more specifically, logistics, warehousing and security;

 

WHEREAS, Disaster Aid International provided the people of Cagayan de Oro who were victims of typhoon Sendong with Family Survival Packs filled with their Disaster Aid tent and blankets, water containers, cooking utensils, a stove, pots, pans, children rucksacks (with books and pencils), mosquito nets and other useful items, in order to equip a family with the basic tools necessary to rebuild their lives;

 

WHEREAS, Disaster Aid International goes the extra mile and not only puts up camps and temporary shelter but they build communities which is what is needed in trying times.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives to express its sincerest gratitude to Disaster Aid International for setting up tents and donating Family Survival Packs for the flood victims of Cagayan de Oro City brought about by typhoon Sendong
